Skin boosters vs dermal fillers: what is the difference?
People often use these two names as if they mean the same thing. They do not. Both are injected, but one changes the quality of your skin and the other changes shape and volume.

What a skin booster does
A skin booster spreads fine hydration through the skin using many tiny injections. It does not add shape.
The aim is better texture, more bounce and a healthy glow. Results build over a few weeks as the skin takes on water.
What a dermal filler does
A filler is placed in one area to add volume or lift. Think lips, cheeks or chin.
It changes contour. That is why it needs careful planning around your face shape.
Side by side
A quick way to see the difference:
- Goal: skin quality (booster) vs shape and volume (filler)
- Placement: spread across an area (booster) vs targeted points (filler)
- Look: fresher, more hydrated skin (booster) vs visible change in contour (filler)
- Sessions: usually a short course (booster) vs often a single session (filler)
Which one is right for you?
If your skin looks dull, dry or tired but you like your features, a booster is usually the better starting point.
If you want to restore lost volume or change a feature, that is a filler conversation. Many people never need one.
Either way, start with a consultation. A good practitioner will tell you if a treatment is not right for you.
Questions to ask at your consultation
Write these down before you go:
- Who will carry out my treatment, and what are their qualifications?
- Which product will you use, and where is it from?
- How many sessions will I need, and what will the full course cost?
- What should I avoid before and after?
- What happens if I am not happy or have a reaction?
